Note from DBBI President regarding USSSA Affiliation....
Denton Boys Baseball Inc. is excited to announce our affiliation with USSSA (United States Special Sports Association). We believe this partnership will have positive effects on the organization and especially the players who participate in the leagues.
You may have noticed our new age divisions for Spring 2014. Age divisions will be 6U (5 and 6 year olds), 7U, 8U, 9U, 10U, 11U, 12U, 14U (13 and 14 year olds), and 16U (15 and 16 year olds if there are enough interested). The purpose of this change is to address concerns from parents for their player’s safety while playing with physically more mature players. This also gives our teams an opportunity that we have not offered. Teams who wish to continue playing after the DBBI season is over, will have the possibility of additional tournaments on a State and National level for recreational teams, or Class “A” teams as defined by USSSA. Also, there are Class “A” All Star Tournaments that may be an option. By moving into these age divisions and registering with USSSA, all of our players will be placed into their national registry making them eligible to compete in these tournaments. Furthermore, USSSA is the second largest baseball organization in the world behind Little League Baseball. USSSA is working to become larger and more competitive than Little League Baseball and offer their version of the World Series in the near future.
In a case where we do not have enough of one age group to create a competitive league, we would combine that age group with another age group. The combination would be an even number age group and the odd numbered age group below it. Therefore, if there were not enough 11U players to create a league, we would combine them with the 12U league. The league would be 12U and would be eligible to compete against other 12U teams in USSSA Class A tournaments after the DBBI season. If there were not enough 8U players, we would combine them with the 7U players and create one 8U league. However, the number of players registered to play with DBBI in the Spring seasons will easily support a very competitive league at each age group. The only age groups we will not combine with another age group is 6U, 14U, and 16U. These will already be combined due to the number of players who register through DBBI.
The DBBI Board thanks all of you who have supported us. This is something that many have approached Board Members about doing for the players who want to compete against other recreational leagues. We would love to have your feedback, as always. We expect there to be some issues to arise. Please, be patient and understanding. If you have suggestions, please, submit them through the proper channels. Again, we think this will be something that will benefit the players of DBBI for years to come.
